What this is
southchinasea.net is an index of research materials on maritime issues and the South China Sea (East Sea). Each entry is a research document (journal article, book, report, legal instrument…) with verified source information, a short summary written by the operator, and labels showing what kind of document it is and where it comes from. For newer documents the operator also writes a personal assessment, kept in a separate, clearly labelled block.
Who runs it
This is an independent personal research project run by one person. The operator shown on the site is Editor, southchinasea.net. The site does not represent any agency or organisation.
Two language editions, one project
biendong.org is the Vietnamese edition and southchinasea.net is the English edition of the same project, sharing one dataset. The language switch at the top of every page takes you to the equivalent page on the other edition. You are reading southchinasea.net; the other edition is biendong.org.
What this site does not do
- It does not publish news or aggregate press coverage.
- It does not republish third-party documents: no full texts, no PDF files, no copies of original abstracts. Each entry links to the original source.
- It does not share documents of unknown origin or circulating without a clear source.
- It has no accounts, comments, forums or forms, and it does not collect readers’ personal data.
- It does not publish maps.
How to read an entry
- The summary describes what the document says, attributed to its author (“The author argues that…”). A summary is not the site’s own position.
- The editor’s assessment (where present) is the operator’s personal view of the document, kept apart from the summary. See the assessment policy.
- The origin labels show the country of the publishing body and the kind of body it is (academic, independent think tank, state body…). See the editorial policy.
