The problem of sovereignty over the Paracels Islands and the Spratly Islands in the relations between the State of Vietnam and the French Republic (1950-1955)

The article examines the State of Vietnam’s administration of the Paracel Islands and dealings with France during 1950–1955. The author distinguishes France’s 1950 administrative transfer there from the unresolved transfer of the Spratly Islands and discusses Vietnamese efforts to assert its claim.
